Making Room for What Matters

In this episode, we talk about living with intention by letting go.

Downsizing, decluttering, and creating a home that truly works for you.

From simplifying your spaces to organizing important documents, this conversation is about making room for peace, clarity, and what matters most in your everyday life.

Downsizing isn’t just about letting go. It’s about what you’re making room for.

5 Practical Tips for Downsizing

  1. Declutter with Purpose–Not Panic. Go slow and steady. You’ve got time. Downsizing is a process–not a deadline (unless your house will be on the market soon).
  2. Create a Home that Works for You Today — Your home may have worked well in the past, but consider your needs and life in this season by asking yourself the questions below:
    1. Do I want to take care of my house? Or do I want my house to take care of me?
    2. It can mean fewer rooms to take care of. Fewer stairs. Less yard work, snow removal, or exterior work.
    3. It can mean bringing you closer to a community of people.
  3. Organize Important Documents for Peace of Mind. It’s a gift to yourself and the people you love. And make sure someone knows where it is.
    1. Will or Trust.
    2. Powers of Attorney (Medical and Financial)
    3. Advanced Healthcare Directives.
    4. Property and Insurance Documents.
    5. Simple List of Accounts and Passwords.
  4. Consider a Will or Trust–Without Fear. Decide with your legal counsel which is right for you. If it’s been many years, revisit it and update as needed.
  5. Ask Yourself, “How Do I Want My Days to Feel?” –What do you want more time and energy for?
    • Travel?
    • Grandkids?
    • Volunteering?
    • Health and Wellness?
    • Getting more involved in your community?
    • Slower mornings with Jesus, coffee, and quiet?

This season isn’t an ending. It’s an opening. And you are allowed to dream about what’s next. Trusting that our days and times are in our Heavenly Father’s hands–we do not need to fear His plan and timing.
